Candida is a type of yeast that is generally found in the regular flora of the skin, intestinal track, the mouth, rectum, and vagina. When in balance it helps maintain and aid our immune system by controlling the unfriendly organisms. This fungus can cause thrush and vaginal infections and spread to any part of the body that is weakened. There are over 20 species of Candida yeasts that can cause infection in humans, the most common of which is Candida albicans.
